AFTER SCHOOL JAZZ BAND

Description:
Band students meet once a week to
learn jazz and popular techniques
and play music of varying popular
styles. This group performs on
our regularly scheduled concerts.
7th and 8th
grade students participate all year,
6th graders may join in 2nd
semester.

CROSS COUNTRY CLUB

Description:
Cross-country is a high energy sport
that is both individual and
team-oriented. Each day we
will be working on endurance through
distance runs and speed through
interval training. Teammates
usually become good friends and
these relationships can last a
lifetime. We run 1-2 meets per
week. Middle school races vary
in distance from 1.5 miles to 2
miles. This is an excellent
way to stay in shape, meet new
friends, and have some fun!

JAW (Jefferson
Association of Writers)

Description:
JAW is a creative writing
organization for 6-7-8 grade. Each month
writing prompts are suggested and
the group sits and writes for 25-30
minutes. Following the
writing, volunteers share their
resulting piece. No one is
required to read aloud, but many
choose to do so. Topics this year
have included: Creating a
Halloween monster, ABC stories,
original Christmas legends, Series
poetry, and the story behind the ad.

JEFFERSON
DRAWING CLUB

Description:
The club involves students who enjoy
drawing. Anime/Manga, classic
cartoon, portraits, and caricature
are some of the techniques discussed
and used within the club.

JMS BOWLING CLUB

Description:
We bowl for 10 weeks starting in
January. This year, Bowling Club
officially begins on January 5th
and concludes March 9th.
The price is $5.50 each week and
includes two bowling games, shoe
rental and a party with trophies.
Teams have 4-5 bowlers.

The young ladies learn all aspect of

Thursday for 6-8 weeks following the
Christmas break
Description: Students
will be given specific sports to
report on within the group.
The NFL,
NHL, NBA as well
as Jefferson
and Lakeview sports will be
assignments given to group members.
Each meeting will consist of a
roundtable discussion/debate on the
topics. A 1-page paper
summarizing our topics may be
printed and distributed around the
school.

JMS TRI CLUB

Description: Students
are introduced to the multisport of
triathlon. Students are guided to
train for a super kids tri at Belle
Isle held in June. Students
will swim, bike, and run. 11-14 year
olds will complete a 200m swim, 10k
bike, and a 1 mile run. For

MARATHON
RUNNING CLUB

Description:
Students, parents, and staff members
train together to build endurance
for the Martian marathon of Races
held in
Dearborn. 5k,
10k, ½ marathon and full marathon
races are options for all runners.
Students must log 23 miles through
their training to combine with their
3.2 mile race to complete the
equivalent of a full marathon

Description:
This is our 8th grade
service project to help raise money
to fight against cancer.
We have been the top
fundraising team for the past 4
years.
We fundraise all year long
and the 8th graders get
to serve on this team and work the
Relay for Life event in St. Clair Shores.
This is the real highlight of
their 8th grade year!

There is one meeting to sign up and
then the bee is held in December or
January.
Description:
Students from JMS compete against
other 6-8 grade students. The
winner of our school spelling bee
goes on to compete against other
winners from other schools in
Macomb
County. The winner
of that bee goes on to compete at
higher levels, with the ultimate
goal being Washington D.C.
to become the national winner.

The main role of 6th, 7th,

involved in Student Government is to
promote school spirit. Events
include: school dances, food drives,

shootout for Red Cross, Shamrocks
for Muscular Dystrophy, Report
upcoming activities and events to
their assigned T2R.
