AFTER SCHOOL JAZZ BAND

Meeting Place:  Room 303 (Band Room)
Meeting Time: 2:55 pm - 3:45 pm
Description:  Band students meet once a week to learn jazz and popular techniques and play music of varying popular styles.  This group performs on our regularly scheduled concerts.  7th and 8th grade students participate all year, 6th graders may join in 2nd semester.

CROSS COUNTRY CLUB

Meeting Place: LHS Parking Lot
Meeting Time: 3pm on school days
Description: Cross-country is a high energy sport that is both individual and team-oriented.  Each day we will be working on endurance through distance runs and speed through interval training.  Teammates usually become good friends and these relationships can last a lifetime.  We run 1-2 meets per week.  Middle school races vary in distance from 1.5 miles to 2 miles.  This is an excellent way to stay in shape, meet new friends, and have some fun!

JAW (Jefferson Association of Writers)
Club Contact: Ms Dzubak, sdzubak@scslakeview-k12.com Description: JAW is a creative writing organization for 6-7-8 grade.  Each month writing prompts are suggested and the group sits and writes for 25-30 minutes.  Following the writing, volunteers share their resulting piece.  No one is required to read aloud, but many choose to do so. Topics this year have included:  Creating a Halloween monster, ABC stories, original Christmas legends, Series poetry, and the story behind the ad.

JEFFERSON DRAWING CLUB

Meeting Place: Room 206 every Friday for six weeks beginning late October
Description: The club involves students who enjoy drawing.  Anime/Manga, classic cartoon, portraits, and caricature are some of the techniques discussed and used within the club.

JMS BOWLING CLUB

Meeting Place: Lakeshore Lanes near 13 mile and Jefferson.
Meeting Time: Wed   3:15 pm – 5:00 pm
Description: We bowl for 10 weeks starting in January. This year, Bowling Club officially begins on January 5th and concludes March 9th. The price is $5.50 each week and includes two bowling games, shoe rental and a party with trophies.  Teams have 4-5 bowlers.

JMS CHEER CLUB

Meeting Place: JMS GYM
Meeting Time: 3 pm – 4 pm starting in April and goes until the end of the year

Description: The young ladies learn all aspect of cheerleading including jumps, motions, cheers, sidelines, flexibility, and stunting.  The club is lead by LHS Varsity Coach, Stephanie Charlie and is assisted by members of the Varsity and JV Cheer Teams. 

JEFFERSON SPORTS REPORTERS

Meeting Place:  Room 206
Meeting Time:  Every Thursday for 6-8 weeks following the Christmas break
Description:  Students will be given specific sports to report on within the group.  The NFL, NHL, NBA as well as Jefferson and Lakeview sports will be assignments given to group members.  Each meeting will consist of a roundtable discussion/debate on the topics.  A 1-page paper summarizing our topics may be printed and distributed around the school.

JMS TRI CLUB

Meeting Place: LHS pool, weight room, and track
Meeting Time: Training dates in May/June TBD
Description: Students are introduced to the multisport of triathlon. Students are guided to train for a super kids tri at Belle Isle held in June.  Students will swim, bike, and run. 11-14 year olds will complete a 200m swim, 10k bike, and a 1 mile run.  For more information check the following website: superkidstry.com

LAKEVIEW RUGBY CLUB (BOYS AND GIRLS)

Meeting Time: Weekdays during spring from 3:30pm-5:30pm
Brief Description:  The Lakeview Rugby Club offers a fun, exciting, and unique sport to any individual looking to become part of a real team family. Students of any and all athletic and academic backgrounds are encouraged to join.

MARTIAN MARATHON RUNNING CLUB

Meeting Place: LHS Track
Meeting Time: Wednesdays and Fridays from February to April
Description:  Students, parents, and staff members train together to build endurance for the Martian marathon of Races held in Dearborn. 5k, 10k, ½ marathon and full marathon races are options for all runners.  Students must log 23 miles through their training to combine with their 3.2 mile race to complete the equivalent of a full marathon

MITES

Meeting Time: Tuesdays from 3-5
Description: MITES Club is for students who are interested in creating and building projects out of wood and other materials.  Students will also be able to compete in a state level competition. See Mr. Pontius first for eligibility information.

SCRAPBOOKING CLUB

Meeting Time: After school one time per month and possible an all day Saturday scrap
Description: This club is geared for any student that loves to create lasting memories through page and album design.

S.N.A.P. (Shores Network for Action and Prevention)

Meeting Time: The third Monday of every month
Description:  This community based coalition implements various programs relating to substance abuse prevention. Students participate in programs and events designed to educate the community on this important topic.

SWIMMING / DIVING CLUB

Description:  Competitive swimming and diving team, competes against other teams in the county.  Students do not need experience in the sport to participate.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

Description: a national organization that recognizes students who have high achievement in their academics, citizenship, and community service.  The Jefferson Middle School Chapter has students participating in activities including fundraisers, service projects and organization of school sponsored events.  Members involved create a climate of strong leadership who benefit their school community.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Meeting Time: 2 Wednesdays a month during 8th Grade Lunch
Description: This is our 8th grade service project to help raise money to fight against cancer.  We have been the top fundraising team for the past 4 years.  We fundraise all year long and the 8th graders get to serve on this team and work the Relay for Life event in St. Clair Shores.  This is the real highlight of their 8th grade year!

Meeting Place: JMS Cafeteria
Meeting Time: There is one meeting to sign up and then the bee is held in December or January.
Description: Students from JMS compete against other 6-8 grade students.  The winner of our school spelling bee goes on to compete against other winners from other schools in Macomb County.  The winner of that bee goes on to compete at higher levels, with the ultimate goal being Washington D.C. to become the national winner.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Meeting Place: Room 214
Meeting Time: Wednesdays from 2:50 pm- 3:30 pm    
Description: The main role of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students involved in Student Government is to promote school spirit.  Events include: school dances, food drives, appreciation events, clothing drives, spirit days, staff luncheons, annual basketball shootout for Red Cross, Shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy, Report upcoming activities and events to their assigned T2R.
